China aims to boost robot manufacturing industry

February 05, 2025

Since 2005 when we expanded our business from a local service to a global organisation, YB Components has been supplying everything from Sferax linear bearings and Trasco es zero backlash couplings to Sirem motors and Spaggiari variators, to companies in different industries around the world.

Being a nation of avid manufacturers, China is a certainly a country where demand for industrial equipment and the complex array of components that ensure industrial machinery works proficiently is rampant.

In fact in 2010 China overtook the United States as the world’s largest manufacturing nation. In 2013 it was reported that China had widened its lead on the US as the top global manufacturer.

Keen to maintain its position, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), China is mulling a five-year plan to increase its fledging robot manufacturing industry.

The robotic manufacturing boost will be part of China’s 13th Five-Year Plan, which will from 2016 – 2020.

Stemming from within the worldwide shift from integration and energy-saving and manufacturing to automation, there has been an escalating application of industrial robotics in construction materials, machinery, food, shipbuilding and aeronautics.

Industrial robots essentially move materials, tools and parts, as well as performing a variety of programmed tasks in production settings and manufacturing.

The globe’s biggest buyer of industrial robots

As increased competition and rising labour costs have forced manufacturers to use more automation, China is now the world’s largest buyer of industrial robots. According to the Frankfurt-based International Federation of Robotics, in 2013, China bought a total of 36,560 industrial robots, an increase of more than 60 per cent compared to the following year.

The country’s current robot market value is estimated at less than 100 billion yuan ($16.26 billion). Although as Yao Zhiju, deputy secretary-general of the China Robot Industry Alliance said, the growth potential for industrial robotics is large, given China’s needs for industrial transformation.

As industrial robots reshape the manufacturing industry, this modern form of industrial equipment is becoming an increasingly common fixture in factories.

Industrial robots are a great addition for many applications. They are most commonly used in material handling, arc welding and assembly applications.

In order to operate proficiently, these complex machines are made up of a vast array of industrial components and parts. From an industrial robot gearbox designed for high precision and low noise, to worm gearboxes for industrial robots designed to be small, lightweight and easy to install, the growing demand for both high-end smart robotics which are interconnected with upstream and downstream industry and packaging robots which are designed with fixed programs to carry out repetitive tasks, means the need for robotic components is going to steadily increase.

Whether you require a worm gearbox for a high-end smart robot working in a factory in China or couplings and clutches for a printing industry machine in Yorkshire, globally-connected YB Components can help source and supply industrial components, no matter how common or special they might be.
