Volvo Recalls 200,000 Faulty Cars

volvo-2396040_1280

It seems that Swedish car manufacturer Volvo might be in need of some reliable repair services soon as they have begun recalling over 200,000 of their vehicles due to recently discovered engineering issues.

The recall is voluntary, with the problematic issues believed to be associated with one of the fuel lines in the engine compartment, and not anything immediately dangerous to drivers of the affected cars. While the problem is not believed to cause any imminent danger – as indeed it would had the brakes or gear-motors been affected – the issue is certainly serious enough that the company is willing to attract what will undoubtedly be some poor media coverage for the recall.

It is one of the biggest recalls made by Volvo since 2004, when it made its largest ever recall to date when it was forced to call back 460,000 cars due to faulty wiring in the main cooling fan’s electronic control module.

Leaking Fuel Lines Behind Latest Volvo Recall

Although still considered a Swedish company (which they are), the Volvo firm is actually owned by the Zhejiang Geely Holding Group of China, who have conducted investigations into the fuel line issues along with Volvo themselves. It is understood that some of the Volvo vehicles could have tiny cracks on the interior of one of the fuel lines within the engine compartment. The problem can then be exacerbated by Volvo’s pressurized fuel system which is likely to increase the size of the cracks and eventually result in fuel leaking out into the engine compartment.

The company has estimated that approximately 219,000 Volvos are affected by the problem. They also state that the issue has been identified in eleven different models manufactured between 2015 and 2016. The problem also seems to be concentrated in Volvos sold in the UK and Germany, as well as in Sweden itself.

The number of affected cars indicates that a little less than 1 in 4 cars manufactured during 2015 and 2016 suffer the fuel leakage problem, as the total cars built by Volvo during that two year period amounts to just over a million.

Zero Geared-Motor Units Issues

A statement from Volvo reassured their customers that there haven’t been any reports of alleged injuries or other damages related to the fuel leakage issue while also not mentioning any other potential issues that might cause a recall of cars, such as issues with the brakes, gear-motors and so forth.

The official statement from the company confirmed that the company was recalling the cars simply as a preventative measure to avert any possible future problems.
