The Tschan -S SV coupling is a torsionally flexible and puncture-proof claw coupling available through Tschan suppliers YB Components for fast and free shipping all over the UK and the rest of the world.
Tschan’s -S SV flexible coupling is ideally used in applications featuring hydrodynamic high speed couplings as it can compensate for angular, radial and axial shaft misalignments (within certain defined limits).
Here we take a closer look at some of the technical aspects of this high performance flexible Tschan coupling.
Technical Specifications for Tschan -S SV Coupling
The -S SV coupling transmits torque via elastic shear loaded buffers which are either made out of a nitrile rubber called Perbunan or polyurethane material. The buffer rings made of Perbunan are more electrically conductive than the polyurethane, making them more suitable for application requiring this capability. The oil-resistant buffers are inter-connected and form an elastic buffer ring which dampens shocks and vibrations.
The -S SV coupling can also be used in every direction of rotation and installation position, and they have been specially designed to be suitable for use in potentially explosive atmospheres, according to Directive 94/9/EC. To verify their suitability for potentially explosive atmospheres, these Tschan couplings have been classified for equipment groups I and II and equipment categories 2 and 3.
These categorisations mean the -S SV coupling can be used in areas where the presence of potentially explosive gases, vapours and dust may occur.
Tschan Coupling Installation
First and foremost it must be stated that there are multiple potential health and safety hazards involved in replacing such couplings as described here, so the original manufacturer’s detailed instructions must be checked and adhered to before attempting to install a new coupling.
The basics of installing the coupling involve first removing the elastic buffer ring and carefully cleaning the bore of the coupling hub and the shaft end to ensure all of the surfaces are clean and dry as well as free of any greasy residue.
Once the elastic buffer ring has been removed and the bore of the coupling hub has been cleaned of dirt, dust and grease, you can mount the coupling hub on the shaft end. The larger variety of these couplings will likely require a mounting tool and a hoisting device such as a mini-crane or pulley blocks.
The hub should be mounted so that the shaft end is aligned accurately with the inner
bore opening, though also be aware of any deviant agreements. Tighten the setscrews by securing them with an adhesive (Tschan recommend Loctite 222) which will prevent the screws from coming loose.
There are many other tips and tricks to successfully mounting Tschan couplings available through the manufacturer or YB Components themselves.
If you require Tschan couplings such as the -S SV or any of their other popular models such as the Posiflex, Posimin, Tormax or Nor-Mex couplings, then contact YB Components who are the UK’s leading Tschan suppliers.
