Coaxial gearboxes such as Spaggiari coaxial gearboxes feature a drive shaft and an output shaft on the same rotation axis. Sometimes known as inline gearboxes, coaxial gearboxes are usually designed with spur gears or planetary gears, which can vary in design according to the application’s needs.
Some models of coaxial gearbox feature spur gears with a fixed axis, and others feature planetary gears where every axis is not fixed. A planetary gearbox will have several spur gears running between a gear with internal teeth and a gear with external teeth, usually via a concentric orbit (hence the name). It is not necessary for all of the spur gears to rotate around their own axis in order to transmit a torque as the spur gear with internal teeth can be fixed so the drive shaft and the output shaft rotate in the same direction.
Below we describe the two main varieties of coaxial gearbox used for industrial applications, as well as take a closer look at the excellent Spaggiari coaxial gearboxes available through Spaggiari suppliers YB Components.
Planetary Coaxial Gearboxes
The most common type of coaxial gearbox features planetary gears on a planetary carrier rotating around the driven ‘sun’ wheel in the centre of a fixed internal gearing system.
For a speed modulation version of the planetary coaxial model, as seen in the Spaggiari coaxial gearboxes range available through Spaggiari suppliers, the planetary ring gear can be rotated via a second input. This feature enables the output shaft to be accelerated or decelerated according to the rpm of the drive train. This type of gearbox is popular as it allows the individual machine parts to be synchronised or fine-tuned.
Spur Gear Coaxial Gearboxes
These gears are technically parallel shaft gearboxes, but they are included here because it is possible to have a two-stage or multi-stage gearbox act as a coaxial gearbox.
Spaggiari Coaxial Gearboxes
Spaggiari’s excellently designed coaxial arrangement of the input shafts and the output shafts produce very high efficiency with high power density. They can be built in a compact design and are suitable for a wide range of applications. It is also easy to produce high transmission ratios with multi-stage versions of these high quality Spaggiari gearboxes.
Spaggiari also manufacture variators and geared-motors, and the range includes variable speed variators and motor-variators as well as geared-motor units, worm gearboxes and large belt closed motor-variators. Also available through Spaggiari suppliers alongside the Spaggiari coaxial gearboxes are bevel helical and parallel shaft gearboxes.
